Young@WorkplacePride organizes inspiring LGBT awareness workshop at AIESEC event
March 8, 2016
On February 4th, Young@WorkplacePride organized an LGBT awareness workshop at the national congress of AIESEC Board members. AIESEC is the world’s largest student-run non-profit organization that aims to develop leadership among high potential students. The goal of the workshop, held in two sessions, was to empower the approximately 60 participating students on the topic of LGBT awareness in the workplace.
Accenture’s ‘Unconscious Bias’ method was very well received. Research has shown that the beliefs and values gained from family, culture and a lifetime of experiences heavily influence the way we work, live and socialize. During the workshop, the students were challenged to recognize their own unconscious bias towards new people.
The workshop continued with a lively business case discussion about the way Dutch Corporates should approach activating their employees in terms of LGBT workplace inclusion and concluded with Hidde-Jan Beukers (Accenture) sharing his personal story as a young gay professional.
Although this was only the first time Young@WorkplacePride organized the workshop, feedback has been very positive and will certainly lead to more similar workshops in the future.
